7) Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Looking back at my Preliminary task at the start i thought it would be alot easier that i first expected. The Preliminary task only needed a background immage - possible medium or extreme close up. Once this had been added - we then needed to ad text box's and a title. This was nothing compared with the progression to our Major AS task. Personally i felt at the time of my Preliminary task - i belived i had come up with a substantional piece of work. Looking back on my progress now to my media product (music Magazine) it has made me realise how poor it was to my final Major Task. Below is an image of my Preliminary task:

i took some pictures around our school/collage _ as the Title breif was to create a school/collage front cover for a school magazine. bellow are images i had taken:

I used these pictures in my Preliminary task as they related to a school/collgae and the task was for a school's magazine front cover. once i had completed the task, and began to design my major task, i realised how hard it can be to design a proffessional looking cover to my music magazine. I new the basics of Adobe InDesign so i had a ruff idea how i wanted my design to look, by using images from festivals eg bellow is my picture of Deadmau5 on stage when i took the image with his agreement:

this would be my main focus point to my front cover. I belive it works really well and the Red hat he is wearing contrasted with the yellow top band with my special slogan in it. it also contrasts with his name which i typed in bold white - to stand out from the dark background. This then brightened my ideas by looking for the front cover i wanted and bellow is what i found to guide me along through my designing:

Once i put all of my ideas together i came up with this as my front cover:

Once i had this as my finished front cover design - the other pages i found easy - using the image bellow, it inspired my with my contents, and bellow that is what i had created:

I used Constrasting electric Green as a border - but kept the relations between the yellow text box's - relating to the Reading logo on my front cover:

Once i had both my front cover and my contents, i then moved on using Reading festival as the main focus point of my media product (music magazine - BASS MAX') and designed my final two page (double) spread. I used pictures of festivals - Dj's and using text box's with slogans etc. Bellow is my design:

Overall - looking back at my Preliminary task, i feel i have learnt alot about Adobe InDesign and i belive i have deffinatly progressed from my first task - to my major task. And equally belive my product is of high standard!

6) What have you learnt about Technologies from the persons of constructing this product?

The list bellow are all programmes and Technologies i used for the process of my media product, i created my music magazine (media product) in Adobe InDesign CS. I used Microsoft Word to produce my Notes, and my diary for installation when my blogger had problems. I used Internet Explorer to gather information about other simular media products and information about ect: Facebook and Mspace. I used Painshop pro 7 to eddit my images if they needed to be, and Paint to crop images to size eg: with the Dj who i couldnt get a reference to use an image of him, so i had to crop his head and face out of the picture.

- Adobe InDesign CS
- Microsoft Word
- Internet Explorer
- PaintShop pro 7
- Paint

Also above is a screen capture of http://www.blogger.com/.
This was my 'diary' of my progress and my base for my media product.
Before i started my Media AS major task, i had no idea how to use Adobe InDesign and had no clue on how to even start on one page. It took me a couple of weeks before I fully grasped the concept and basic tools of this application - but once i had a basic idea of what to use and when to use it, i managed fine with the creation of my media music magazine. It was complete trial and error with my magazine, but after i had completely eddited it and finished i was really pleased with the outcome. And would use these technologies  with advertizing later in life, because this is what i want to achieve - so using this software and technologies it is really helpfull to me!

5) How did you attract/address your audience?

I have tried many different ways to attract and adress my audience, these include celeb's and pictures of their gigs from London gigs, to Festivals such as Reading 2009. I also used slang and emphasisms to target my young age groups - using slogans at the top of the pages to relate to them.. my product also contains people of their age groups, such as the croud picture i took of young people haveing a good time!
The main purpose of this magazine is not only to inform but entertain audience members. This made the presentation, structure and character of the magazine very important so it easily appealed to the audience. The front of the magazine is almost the most important as it is one of the first things that the reader will see before opening it, and is often the deciding factor when coming to purchase a magazine. On the cover of Bass magazine I made al of the titles big and bold, making sure that the font was easy to read and that the colours complimented each other in such a way that it has made the titles stand out.
The picture above is of a magazine cover i wanted to relate to.
Reading festival addresses my target audience. As young people go to these festivals.

the pictures above are off http://www.google.com/ but it shows how i got these images as a base image for my target audience, and i belive it works well.

4) Who would be the audience for your media product?

Bellow are some images of colours i have used - the type of audience i want to relate to, for example bellow is a flyer for a T.Pain gig. Using a picture which is super imposed draws the readers eyes in etc:

DEADMAU5^^^
The picture above relates to my target audience as this is the sort of logo teenagers and young people would wear on their t-shirts. As i siad before the audience i want to achieve for my media product is teenagers to young people. Ruffly the age of 16-30 years old. I wasent aiming for any typical gender to aim my media product. Personally i would say it is aimmed at male young people, but that wasent my intenttion, thats just my own opinion with the final product. 70% of teenagers get a weekend job by the age of 16-18. This is why i have aimmed my media product at the price of £2.99 - meaning it is affordable for the reader, and also would give the distributer and edditing team, a gross profit and overall profit outcome. My product is popualarised with this audience through promo's and advertizing. it is a primary level of involvment. For these reasons this is my audience for my media product.

My audience references:

Beth Kavanagh (aged 17) female.
''This magazine has related well to the target audience. The colours are all reating back to eachother which is a good thing! Personally i really like it and would tell my friends it is really cool!''

Tom Sulavan (aged 19) male.
''This mag is sweet! it looks like a music mag which i would buy. I love the bold front cover - and using images of Deadmau5 as the main image is wicked because i have a mag at home, all about his new album and personally i prefer yours mate! The contents is also really cool, and looks pro.. i would have used more information on your double page spread but all in all it all adds up to being a wicked mag - and i would promote/advertise it if i could!''

Kate Swallow (aged 48) female.
''Your magazine is cool. Personally i wouldn't buy it as i dont think im hip enough to have this around my house! i only say this as your using slang and emphasisms from younger age groups, (which i dont understand!) although i would deffinatly buy this for my son, who is 16 coming up 17! he'd love it!''

Paul Jones (aged 35) male.
''This magazine is pritty cool man.. i would deffinatly buy it! but i think after a few more years i wouldnt. This is just because im trying to be up to date now, but in 5 years i wount have the time for it. I think im just about the top end of your target audience man, but it looks professional''

3) What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

There are many different publishing houses for magazines, although most magazines are made and published by only a select few major distributers. These are for example:
- Emap.. Emap Limited is a British media company, specialising in the production of business-to-business magazines, and the organisation of business events and conferences. The company was once a constituent of the FTSE 100 Index but is now owned by Apax and Guardian Media Group.
- IPC.. IPC Media (formerly International Publishing Company UK Ltd) is one of the United Kingdom's leading consumer magazine and digital publishers, with a large portfolio selling over 350 million copies each year. This company’s portfolio includes big names such as: NME, Look, Now and Rugby World.

My magazine ''BASS MAX'' would connect to IPC as they make NME for example. this then indicates that my magazine would fall under the same title as NME production. My magazine is aimed at young people, from teenagers to adults under 30 or there about. This also relates to NME as they have the same target audience. For these reasons this is why IPC would be my intended distributer for my media product.
My media product could also be designed on the internet and could also appear online, for example screen captures of the pages (eg: the front cover) could be posted on web search enjines such as www.google.com/images

The adverage cost of IPC's NME magazine is.. £2.99
My media product would be in the same price band as NME, this way its affordable - but also gives the Entrepreneur an overall revenue profit/income.. making sales more affordable for the distributer and resulting in mass production, world wide.

Below are some URL http//'s of some worldwide music example distributers for different products, and could also be used to advertise my media product:

2) How does your media product represent particular social groups?

My media product represents particular social groups by identifying different target audiences and age groups. I have targeted my audience around the ages of teenagers towards young people. I have managed to find an image bellow of the 'Facebook' logo. This represents my social net-working sites. Facebook
is a social networking website that is operated and privately owned by Facebook, Inc. Since September 2006, anyone over the age of 13 with a valid e-mail address can become a Facebook user. Facebook's target audience is more for adults than youths. Users can add friends and send them messages, and update their personal profiles to notify friends about themselves. Additionally, users can join networks organized by workplace, school, or college. This is my main relation to my target audience.
Facebook:

Myspace is also another social net-working site. MySpace is a social networking website. Its headquarters are in Beverly Hills, California where it shares an office building with its immediate owner, News Corp. Digital Media, owned by News Corporation. MySpace became the most popular social networking site in the United States in June 2006. According to comScore, MySpace was overtaken internationally by its main competitor, Facebook, in April 2008, based on monthly unique visitors. MySpace employs 1,000 employees, after laying off 30% of its workforce in June 2009; the company does not disclose revenues or profits separately from News Corporation. The 100 millionth account was created on August 9, 2006, in the Netherlands. Below are some images relating to Myspace.
Myspace:

My media product represents social groups, its not just based at one social group, i have tried to use images of teenagers in the croud and then contrasting it with Dj's from festival pictures i took. With the target audience in mind i decided to brand my music magazine towards colours relating to the Reading Festival logo.. i used yellow with my borders etc, to relate to the eye catching logo, with also ties in with Reading and my Target audience as Reading festival is aimed at teenagers and young people. I have also used slag/ abbreviations/ contractions/ emphasisms etc.. to relate to the music magazine, using NME as a focus point, i got the idea of using slogans at the top of the frount cover and the double page spreads. This draws attention to the audience - and relates to the readers eg: about 'summer time'.
For these reasons this is why my media product represents particular social groups.

1)

1) In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

There are many ways in which my media product uses - developed, challenged forms and conventions of real media products, this has been proven as 38 people who filled in my feedback questionnaire were aged between 16-34 years old who all agreed my magazine included all of these. Typical conventions from music magazines include, Bold titles, background pictures, music album references etc.. From my pre-production response the majority of people preferred Hip-hop/Drum 'n' bass..as their preferred genre of music, my magazine reflects this as the majority of artists that I have included are Hip-hop/Drum 'n' bass artists. They also like House/Garage and pop/punk bands so I included a selection of artists from that genre in the contents. In my post production feedback the people asked to fill in my questionair - said my media product fitted to the criteria of those genres of music, and all of them also said they would buy the magazine.
The front cover of ‘BASS MAX’ is bold so it can stand out from a magazine shelf and make the target audience drawn to it. I used bold simple fonts as these tend to be bolder and more effective than fancy ones - also other people in my media class said they were more complicated to read, which made me realise the reader would soon get bored! One person when asked in my post production feedback ‘what do you like most about it?’ replied “I love the name of the magazine because it makes an impact wen u read it - the word BASS MAX almost feels like you could feel the rhythms through the pages!”, this just proves my point that it does give it more of an impact. Throughout my magazine the design of the background of each page has always started as a black text box, this makes the writing and pictures stand out more and also gives you more of a selection of colours that you can use for the text - it also leaves no blank white on the pages! The main image on my front cover is a medium close up shot of Deadmau5, who I’ve been to see at festivals such as Reading and Download - the picture used on the front cover was taken from a gig whivch i got V.I.P tickets too - and realised i'd never get that close to him again so took a few pics.. i really think its a wicked photo and 10 people stated in my questionair that his photo as a background image looks proffessional and also it stands out really well! I chose this image as its bold which draws the audience in and the text is still readable around and on it. The language that I have used throughout my magazine isn’t very complex which makes for an easy reading so you can read it at night or whilst doing something else and still be able to understand what you are reading - also using emphasisms from the younger age groups (my target audience) this becomes easier for my target audience to read and understand.. . Also other essential key parts to the mag was they wanted information such as: news, features and posters which my magazine all provides (stated in the contents). The price of ‘BASS MAX' was chosen by looking through the answers of my target audience on my pre production questionnaire which showed that most people would be prepared to spend from £2 to over £3 so I decided that £2.99 would be a suitable price to charge people - i also did some research on NME as this magazine was the main breadwinner to the sucess of my media product, they price their magazines at £2.99 aswell. My magazine uses 2 of the 4 uses and gratifications; it uses information as its tell the audience what is happening in the music world and its also using the integration and social interaction theory as you find out about what the artists are up to and their music which you can emphathise with the lyrics of the songs and the life of the artists. These would all be on separate pages, its just stated in the contents, with page numbers to the relating points above.
‘BASS MAX’ follows the conventions of existing music magazines, 100% of the 38 people who answered the post production feedback agreed that ‘BASS MAX’ followed the convection of a magazine, and they all also agreed that they liked the layout that was used. Quotes such as “It's brilliantly designed and looks like a real magazine” and “i love the way it’s set out, it looks awesome, it looks like a proper real magazine” backs up the fact that my magazine follows the conventions of existing magazines which makes it look more realistic and also more importantly more appelling. The choice of images that have been used in ‘BASS MAX’ are mostly live images, this is because all the images used in the magazine had to be taken by me at gigs and different festivals such as Reading Festival 2009. This still follows the typical conventions of music magazines, as they usually include a lot of live images just like mine. “The pics are really cool” and “The pictures that have been used” are 2 people’s answers when asked what they most liked about ‘BASS MAX’. The choice of text is relevant to ‘BASS MAX’ as it included captions with the images to let the audience know what that feautured artist is going to talk about or what is happening with the artist. The font of the text is very simple but bold, as there is nothing worse then having a magazine of which you can barely read the writing due to it being all fancy. The size of the text is also easy to read and follows the conventions of a music magazine as I’ve used different sizes to indicate which bits of texts are more important than others so the audience will be drawn to the separate parts of my music magazine. The background colour on all the pages as previously mentioned is in black to make everything stand out more. The front cover and the contents contrast completly this is to keep the readers interested and also it follows a Dj covention towards a Dj's music magazine. However the double page spread use very similar colour ranges for the writing which is bright yellow and bold - this relates back to the front cover with yellow being the main colour and also relating to the reading festival logo at the bottom! this draws the target audience in and keeps them interested. I made the decision to use bright colours, as I believe that it will draw my target audience into wanting to read ‘BASS MAX’ and it also makes it clearer where each piece of text starts and ends. Many people seemed to love the double page spread as stated in their questionair, comments such as “i like the colour scheme, the picture being the same colour as the text is great, looks really professional” and “you've picked good quotes! The colour is really good aswell…” shows me that they obviously liked the double page and it hasn’t gone un-noticed.
My music magazine represents mostly young artists with a few exceptions of some older ones such as Dj Wrek, the reason for this is that my target is audience are teenagers and young adults who are most likely going to know more about new up to date bands than some old ones of which their parents may know of. All of the artists featured in ‘BASS MAX’ are male as a lot of guys try to look up to their idols which are the integration and social interaction theory in uses and gratification. However, it’s not just guys who would want young male artists featured; Teenage girls and young women like nothing more than young gorgeous male to look at and listen to their music. ‘BASS MAX’ is targeted at fans of Drum 'n' bass/Dub-step/Electro/House/Garage etc.. genres of music of which the majority of those genres of music have been included in ‘BASS MAX’; this gives a more vary music magazine and reaches out to a broader audience. “Well, I think you were able to put together many different stories related to many different artists/genres of music, and that diversity is amazing!” and “…how so many different genres are put together and pull it off, looks great” this shows me that people are willing to enjoy many artists genres and have a variation to read through. For these are the ways in which my media product uses, deveplopment or challenges forms and conventions of real media products.
