'BASS-MAX' - my completed major task..

I am happy with the outcome.. Although i have changed a few parts with the edditing and the end results, i belive i have followed my breif of a music magazine, target audience as males/females aged 16-30 year olds.
Its a Dj's magazine, meaning i have met the brief design tasks, and have succesfully completed my Major Media Studies AS task.

double page spread 'Major Task'

14th March 2010....
Starting my double page spread (interview's and information about reading festival)

1ST STEP: i have decided to use a picture i took when 'florence and the machine' played on the NME stage at reading festival.. (shown bellow as my background for both pages)

it was dusk outside and it made the atmosphere in the tent even more exiting. the way it contrasts with the bright lighting in the tent made a really good background image for my double page magazine spread. i am using the same image on both pages to relate to each page, i did this by being influenced by a magazine i saw today (NME). the image on one of the double page spreads had the same image or one image split into one picture over two pages. i have decided to stick with just using the same image on both backgrounds, this way i realised the picture quality stays the same, and it looks symetrical.

2ND STEP: next i had both Adobe InDesign pages up, (the interview and information double page spread) and decided on two top strips - to relate to the other magazine pages i have done and also using the same yellow textbox's to create a relating sence of design. after adding these two yellow textbox strips at the top, i decided to use another yellow textbox, on the left hand page with the title 'READING FESTIVAL' and on the right hand page i added another yellow textbox, also with a title saying '2009/2010'. With both titles finished and layed out how i wanted them to be, i realised the textbox on the right hand page was too wide with the textbox stretching to either side of the page, there was big gaps of plain yellow and i decided to crop the textbox to the size of the title, this made more sence without wasting space on the page. Once i had succesfully layouted and croped my title textboxes i was ready to start adding images, and text to both pages.

(my blogger is still unable to let my upload my images - the IT department have told me to re-try the format, and exporting it, this didnt work as yet, so they are looking at my account tomorrow. hopefully i will be able to add my images of my pages and important editing i have done to them. at present it has finally let me blog my 'blogging diary' that i was doing on ruff paper as my blogger wouldnt let me post my information about how i was working.

* it is now the 24th Of March 2010 and my blogger is still having problems uploading my images. *
- this has now been sorted!! (edited post on the 30th march 2010)

my contents to my Major Task:

12th March 2010...
how i ended up with my contents and changes i made to it.

1ST STEP: i used the image of the Dj decks as my background. croping it to the size i wanted it to be. then i decided to add two borders in an eye catching green colour. this makes the contents page more eye catching and also exiting. inside the border on the left, i have added two other box's which i coloured black with the filling tool, to relate to the background colour. i decided to use these green colours to appeal to a Dj sort of market, the way i used my ideas was because in Dj conserts and sets i have been to in london or festivals, they all tend to use bright lighting (some times green or red lazers) to intrest the audience.
2ND STEP: once i was happy with the colours and layout of the background image and the coloured borders, i then layed another (blue layer) to my Adobe InDesign - contents. with this i was able to try new ideas of fading and over lapping the titles. this didnt help me with the layout or design of my contents so in the end i just decided to add a green coloured text box for the tilte (using the exact same colour as the other greens) and used the same font as the front cover which was called - Ultra Serif SF to gain intrests and also to conect with my front cover. i put the title in bold to show a difference with the box's and the background - and personally i belive this stands out well.
3RD STEP: next i decided to add an image of my cousins boyfriend. this is the guy in the top left hand corner, i named him Dj Reck (as shown bellow)

- with my camera i took it looking up at him to show 'dominance' this gives the feel of a profesional Dj and i really like the outcome. i then added - an image i took in reading festival of a girl - who we zoomed in on - on a guys sholders. using this, it relates to my front cover, being the reading festival as a main aspect of my music magazine - which again relates to my breif. i also added a cropped image that i took from a Dj at the brixton academy who i went to see in june 2009 last year called 'Dj widemouth' (as shown bellow).

i couldnt use his name for copy write reasons, as i didnt have his permission, which means i had to crop out his face and any identiy on the photgraph. i called him 'Dj Wrip' to give a sence of musical aspects - creating a mix-match of different images. lastly - i added an image of 'Chipmunks' gig at reading festival. i took this image because of the really cool lighting. as i stated - Dj's tend to use bright lighting/lazers to Exite the audience, this is real proof of exitment from the middle of the crowd - were me and a freind were standing.
4TH STEP: on the layout i decided to use small text boxes with a yellow background to put the 'magazine page numbers' in. this relates to magazines as many mags have layered textboxes over images to show readers where to find the information from these images - again meeting the appeal of my breif. then once i had the correct Ultra Serif Sf fronts i added the numbers, and added in some more yellow text boxes bellow them to write a small description of each image (using smaller front - it still works well and is eye catching).
5TH STEP: lastly i added another layer to my Adobe InDesign contents (which enabled me to fade a black background to the text box down the right side to my page). after adding this new layer, i created another layer and added a small yellow textbox to write a small title called 'THIS WEEK'. next i added 5 new yellow textboxes and added at the top of each one small titles to enable information to become more insteresting to the readers eyes. these titles were: NEWS, ALBUM REVIEWS, FEEDBACK, GIGS, FEATURES. these each have simple yet obvious information relating to my magazine. i added page numbers and information in each of these box's using the same Ultra Serif Sf fronts as the other boxes on the page - and also again relating to the front cover.

once all of this was completed i took a step back and realized that the layout was correct and i was happy with it, also the image sizes and textboxes were correct. this means, my front cover and contents to my magazine has been completed - and i will now start on my double page spred of my interview - with band from reading. i am really pleased. :)

i wanted to create a contents like the one bellow - i got this image from www.google.com/images

although i havent used the same colour sceme.. i wanted to create text box's with numbers and information much like this contents from the distributer - NME.
i also used pictures in my contents, as it draws the readers eyes into and interesting page to look at, NME have also used this - and this is my main reason for using my own images to create the same aspects.

my contents to my Major Task:

11th march 2010...
My Magazine Contents.

today i have chosen to start my (Bass Max) contents.
i will use an image of a DJ's decks to give a dark layer to start with.
i took this image in my brothers music studio. he Dj's for a band in london,
and using this image it relates to my breif - of making a music magazine.
after layering this image, i will add text box's with a eye catching green
background to the box's - again relating to my breif.
after all of these stages i will then produce ideas of what else to add to it.
i may also use the same colour sceme as my front cover..
using yellow to draw the readers eyes into improtand infromation about my magazine.

Major Task - (music magazine)

8th March 2010...
my front cover (BASS MAX)

I WANTED TO ACHEIVE A FRONT COVER,
THAT AWNSERED THE FOLLOWING:
- target audience..
- eye catching colours..
- realating infromation..
- up to date images..
- etc......

The front cover that inspired me to create the same sort of images and layout was the picture bellow.

the picture bellow is my interpritation of the mag cover above,
i belive mine relates to my breif well and also hits the same target audience although the magazine above is for hip hop artists, and mine is for DJ's - i belive my interpritation works well.. and hits the main objectives.
the colours relate, and the image as a background.. i really like it and how mine relates to it.

THE FINISHED EDDITED AND DONE ''BASS-MAX FRONT COVER''

 - i started with putting a background image of DEADMAU5 (which i took in reading).
using this as a background i then used layer after layer - of different text box's and contrasting colours to show a deffine difference in the way it looks, and the way it stands out as an eye catching front cover to my music (dj's) magazine..

 - i used a font called 'Ultra Serif SF' to give a relative font to my magazine titles and paragraphs.
i have taken the reading 2009 logo of the website (http://www.readingfestival.co.uk/) - this was allowed and approved my my media studies teacher. i would have written an email to them - or the head office to get their aproval.. but this was not possible as i couldnt find an email to send a message to.

 - after adding the background image, and layering the reading logo ontop, i then added a small strip textbox at the top, to contrast with the logo. then adding 'Ultra Serif SF' again i added a slogan line for a festival. its my own quote, and i really works well.
 - next, i added some more pictures that i took at reading. these were of perope in the crowd, it gives a feel of 'festival spirtits'.

 - next, i added a barcode that i found from (http://www.google.com/) again this was approved by my media teachers, and also it was copy-write free.

the way i added all of this together was editing, the boxes, changing photo sizes, matching the box colours - adding the same 'Ultra Serif SF' fonts. i really like the outcome, and belive it relates to my breif. it sucessfully looks like a (dj) magazine front cover, and with covering lessons i will use this to be my magazine ground point, using the same fonts and colours, and information. i really like my outcome!
next lesson i will start my contense page and begin to ruffly design my double page spread - on interviews/festivals or whatever i choose.
i had problems with my account (blogger) and it would not let me blog at the start. so i had a almost diary like plan of my blogging. these are the reasons why i am just re-typing my bloggs. and these are the reasons why my blog is posted on the 18th of march..
